Routine maintenance of high and low voltage plant should be carried out not simply to ensure reliable and economical service, but to comply with the provisions of the Health and Safety Executive. In addition, all maintenance and inspection is carried out as recommended by the equipment manufacturers and as required by BS 6626:1985 Code of Practice for Maintenance of Electrical Switchgear and Control Gear. Such works are implemented in compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulation 1989.
Only trained, competent, Authorised and Senior Authorised personnel are utilised by PWB Power. Our Engineers and Technicians are fully conversant with all varieties of electrical equipment, not to mention the differing handling, storing and disposal requirements.
PWB Power, strictly follow schedules of work and report on the condition of plant before and after remedial treatment with recommendations for future consideration. A comprehensive written report is issued to the client upon completion of work.

Partial Discharge testing is used to analyse the presence of any electrical discharge within areas such as cable termination boxes, busbar chambers and switchgear enclosures, and is a non-intrusive test which can be carried out by competent persons with substation access without the need for a power shutdown.
Thermographic testing has become an accepted method for diagnosing potential faults. This system of analysis is particularly useful when it is difficult to arrange power outages, as it is necessary to have the system live in order to detect high resistance joints. A comprehensive report is produced highlighting any anomalies that are found.

Even during the construction of an HV network there is a legal requirement of customers under the provisions of the Electricity at Work Regulation 1989 to have appointed trained and competent staff. PWB Power can provide a ‘Safe System of Work’ for the operational control of the HV Network, during and after the construction phase utilising PWB Power Distribution Safety Rules and principally the provision of suitably trained and experienced ‘Senior Authorised Persons’. Through these staff we are able to provide temporary operational control of the network and manage the transition from construction phase though to client handover.
